About Joanna

Picture
West Coast Swing (modern swing) and Hustle are her favourite dances, and she travels to compete across Canada and the United States in these styles.  Highlights of her competitions so far have included podium placements in both dances and the thrill of performing routines with her  partners in both West Coast Swing and Hustle.

Joanna trained classically in the cello with the Royal Conservatory of Music and attended the University of Windsor to pursue a career teaching music. In 2003 she brought together her natural abilities in movement and music by studying ballroom, latin, swing, and hustle dancing.

She both leads and follows in all of these styles.

Over the years, her many students have won innumerable awards in Pro-Am competitions. She is widely known as an honest coach and excellent communicator with a great eye for detail.

In 2005 she began teaching when an opportunity arose to take over the role at a local community centre. She has since obtained her Canadian dance teacher’s Licentiate level teaching certificate for International Latin and an advanced certificate in teaching West Coast Swing from the Global Professional Dance Teachers Association (GPDIA), as well as a judging certificate from the GPDIA.

Private Lessons

Not sure if a group class is the right place for you?  Contact Joanna about private lessons.  Lessons can take place at her private studio, or a location convenient for you.

Benefits of private lessons:
  • Personal attention
  • Focused learning
  • Practice with an experienced partner
  • Faster progression
  • More time to ask questions and focus on personal challenges

Joanna teaches both leader and follower roles, so no matter which side of a dance you wish to learn, Joanna can work with you.
Joanna helped me improve my spins and turns by demystifying the confusing technical terms and explaining things to me in a way that FINALLY made sense!
Joanna breaks down technical information in the way that each learner can understand best.  Like cars? She can explain it that way! Love sports? She'll find a sports analogy to help you make sense of a move, it's uncanny!
